My answer will probably be somewhat lackluster – I don’t have one. For me, it is like playing football but not avidly supporting a team. I love my work, and I greatly respect the work of the giants whose shoulders I sit on, but I do not particularly have a favourite… I do have a few least favourites, but those are normally the ones who gave me massive headaches trying to understand there work as an undergraduate!
I totally agree with Matthew, I find it difficult to pinpoint one favourite scientist. There have been so many great scientists in the past or present, some big names everyone knows (e.g. Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Charles Darwin to name a few) and many more names that are only known to specialists in that small field they work in. All of them do important work, which I appreciate and I would want to decide to name one single person as my favourite.
I have to agree with Matt and Marleen. So hard to pinpoint 1 person. But to name a few that have really made a mark for me are Marie Curie, Richard Feynman and Donna Strickland
