Doing a PhD is similar to doing an undergraduate degree – it is only 3 or 4 years long, so not a permanent job to do. I would not suggest doing a PhD unless you have found something you really love – as much fun as being called a Doctor sounds, 4 years is a long time to be dedicated to a single project, and I have known people drop out because they didn’t like their subject enough. That said, I absolutely love it, and wouldn’t change it if I was given the option!

So short answer, maybe? If you adore your subject, and find that one niche part of it that you find absolutely fascinating, then yes go for it! But if you are doing it just for the title, or for any other reason, then I would err on the sider of caution.
