      Currently, five officially recognised ones. Pluto, Makemake, Haumea and Eris are all pretty close-by in the outer Solar System, whereas Ceres is a dwarf planet that resides in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. We reckon there’s hundreds more dwarf planets out past Pluto, though!
