• Question: Your job sounds really interesting and I have always wanted to get into a job that studies space. How did you start your career, and do you have any tips for others who want to start in your career?

This is awesome, space is a great choice! I figured that I wanted to do something with space when I was picking my A Levels, so I chose Physics, Maths and Biology (although to do a degree in Astronomy you just need Physics and Maths), and then went on to do a Physics and Astrophysics degree at University. However, there’s so many things you can do that are related to space- space journalism, space law, space medicine- so you don’t have to go the conventional route that I did and study purely space at Uni. You should check out http://www.spacecareers.uk, as they have some great advice about space careers.
      .
In terms of tips, I would just say that if you’re interested in it, go for it! There’s lots of space-related events that you can get into that’ll be a bonus when you’re applying for Uni, or to jobs- for example, have a look at http://spaceschool.co.uk/ (it’s at the University of Leicester too, which is where I work, so maybe I’ll see you there)! Leicester is actually a really big place for space in the UK, so if you’re nearby I’d also recommend checking out the National Space Centre. Otherwise, you can find talks and stargazing events at your local astronomy club, or, you could see if there’s any public lectures on at your local University. Just get stuck in, enjoy it, and stay motivated and curious! Wishing you the best of luck with everything you do in the future!
