So I am still a student, and the money I get paid is more of a “living allowance”, and is’t very much for a university graduate! That said, I am not taking on more debt, which is very handy, and I still have savings from living frugally for the odd trip to Poland.
Once I graduate with my doctorate, the pay goes up quite a bit! Scientists on the whole do not get paid as much as other professionals with similar qualifications – bankers get paid much more, as do high profile lawyers and mathematicians. That said, my (hopeful!) wage in science will definitely be comfortable, and more than enough to live a very enjoyable life with – just drinking my tasty cider instead of top shelf champagne!
I’m still just a student and my salary as teaching assistant is quite low too. But I know how much some other scientists in my field are paid, and that’s not much compared to other disciplines like mechanical engineering or automotive…
