Favourite thing to do in my job: Shoot xrays to see inside the body and use that to treat cancer
I am a radiation therapist and medical physicist and a mother
I live in Middlesbrough. I have 22 month old son who knows all 8 planets and all lot of things related to space!I am married to a neurosurgeon.
I love travelling and have traveled 61 countries untill now 😀.
I love sports like skydiving and hiking !
My fav books are Harry Potter and The theory of everything .
I am clinical expert in a company that makes radiation therapy machines
I help develop radiation therapy machines ( machines that shoot radiation to treat cancer)
we have to also take X-ray images to see the cancer location inside the body to the high energy radiation can be delivered to exactly the location of the cancer.
Travel to lot of sites with the radiation therapy machines called linear accelerator to test if the new developed technology is working good.
I also travel to various conferences to tell people about the new technologies to treat cancer.
My Typical Day
I work most of the time from home
Most of my work happens at home . I help develop these machines . I write the workflow of how the machine should work. Then I give this to the engineers and they built the machine . Once the machine is built I then travel to the test facility and test the machine to make sure it functioning well.
I also help support the customers who have bought these machines by helping them solve problems that arise in their machines and softwares.
What I'd do with the prize money
I would love to spend the money on more science communication activities
I have been promoting medical physics and radiation therapy visa my Instagram account (@talkingscience) and I been travelling to lot of sites and schools to explain them what medical physics and radiation therapy is .
However I want this information to reach even more people and I want to officially take my science communication to another level and help build more resources like children’s books explaining cancer and treatments.
